Matura schools offer comprehensive general education at secondary level II. The Matura diploma enables admission to courses of study at universities and federal institutes of technology, teacher training (teacher training colleges) and, under certain conditions, further education courses such as those offered by Universities of Applied Sciences. The curriculum covers seven basic subjects and an elective specialisation subject as well as one supplementary subject. Matura education lasts three or four years and is completed with a Matura diploma recognised in Switzerland.
